What to Expect
Great cars, friendly people, incredible venues and a lot of fun!
SpeedMog events are organised by recognised Motorsport UK (MSUK) clubs. The Morgan Sports Car Club are invited to participate, alongside other marques and championship series. It’s not unusual to share the paddock with everything from single-seaters to performance cars, road-going classics, and vintage vehicles.
An early start and a friendly atmosphere
The day begins early, with time to walk the circuit and familiarise (or re-familiarise) yourself with the fastest cornering lines. This is a great opportunity to chat with more experienced competitors and pick up tips. No question is too big or too small—everyone is learning every time they go out on track. There’s no ego here; it’s all about enjoying the experience.
Checks & noise testing
Before you compete, your car will undergo a noise test, and a scrutineer will check both your car and safety equipment to ensure everything meets the required regulations. Once passed, your car will receive a sticker to show that it can complete.
Practice, competition and plenty of banter
Most events include two practice runs before the competition starts, followed by two—and sometimes four or more—timed runs. Between runs, there’s usually around an hour to review your performance, compare notes, and decide where you might go quicker next time. Expect lots of encouragement and good-natured banter from fellow SpeedMoggers throughout the day.
Run times vary depending on the circuit length, but average around 60 seconds, so there’s minimal strain on both driver and car.
Times & trophies
SpeedMog “target times” are tailored to each car, driver and circuit, based on power-to-weight (PTW) ratio. An algorithm is used to calculate the overall handicapped results, meaning everyone has an equal chance of success. Winners and runners-up can usually expect to head home with a well-deserved trophy.
Varied & iconic venues
Sprint circuits range from the epic 3.54 km Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire to the compact Curborough Sprint Course in Staffordshire at just 831 metres.
Hillclimbs are equally diverse: Loton Park in Shropshire offers a thrilling 1.3km course set within a beautiful deer park, while at 967 metres, Gurston Down in Wiltshire features a unique opening downhill section rarely found in British hillclimbing.
