Kicking the season off at Lincolnshire’s tricky track Cadwell Park with a cold but sunny day and great turnout of Speedmoggers. Cadwell is a challenging track with twists and turns through the woods, long straights, hills and a tight goose neck corner – the perfect circuit to put the cars to the test for the first run out.
This event saw some old and new faces as another family rivalry begins with Chris Cowpland sharing his fathers Plus 8. Cadwell also marked a special day for Paul Bryan as he celebrates his 25th year competing in the speed championship. His first event was at Elvington in 2001 driving the same 4/4 that he competes in today.
With the practice lap done and great times across the board, it was clear this year that the competition was on. That being said, unfortunately for Simon Baines the competition was over before it had begun – despite still putting in a fantastic time on the practice, Simon’s car wasn’t quite ready to come out of its winter hibernation yet, however, with a bit of TLC and praying to the Morgan gods we expect to see him back at Anglesey where he will no doubt be making up for lost time at Cadwell.
With round one underway, more quick times were achieved with the consistent Chris Bailey leading the pack closely followed by a personal best breaking time put in by Phil Cowpland (you may have seen that on the news). Andy Hatch also achieved a fantastic time hot on Phil’s tail.
