We can’t quite believe it but this was the 20th running of the MSCC Techniques Taster Day. It was a bumper entry too with a self-imposed 30 driver limit and 2 reserves.
Amazingly 8 cars were double driven which is the highest number we’ve seen previously, 2 of those across 2 generations and one across 3 generations! Perhaps there is a stronger future than some predict in Morgan ownership and driving?
Once again there was a varied cross section of Morgan models from a M3W to a Plus Six and ranging in age from 1962 to 2025. Even two 4 seaters got in on the action.
With a cold breeze blowing all day and a bit of drizzle in the air just before lunch, the track remained dry. Once again the “tuck hut” did good business and supplied all participants promptly with hot food in exchange for their food voucher.
Thanks go to all those who organised and marshalled this years’ event and we look forward to running the event again in 2027. Look out for the date later in the year.
The event will be held at the Curborough Sprint Track near Lichfield (address Netherstowe Lane, Lichfield WS13 8EJ) on Saturday, 4th April 2026. The purpose of the day is to give you the opportunity to drive this sprint circuit as enthusiastically as you wish, to develop your driving skills and potentially explore some of your car’s performance. No previous track experience is necessary.
On the Day
We are permitted to use the track between 10:00 and 17:00, so we would urge everyone to arrive at the time indicated in order that we can complete the briefing session and track walk before 10:00.
The day will start with an introduction to the circuit layout and a walk of the course with an experienced SpeedMog competitor, who will be your mentor for the day and be familiar with your vehicle’s performance. We will then offer passenger tin-top rides to familiarise yourselves with the circuit layout and correct lines. It’s then your opportunity to take to the track, with or without your mentor, for double lap circuits. We anticipate there will be at least two such runs before a lunch stop.
All participants will receive meal and beverage vouchers when signing on to redeem at the catering unit. Additional subsistence can be purchased throughout the day.
Then it’s back on track for the afternoon session, which should be a further 3-4 double lap runs.
Timings
The timings indicated throughout the day will be flexible and, to some extent, dependent upon the weather. We will, however, try to give you as much track time as possible.
08:00 – 09:00 Arrival, signing on and scrutineering

Insurance
Please note that standard car insurance cover may not include activities on track. However, the MSCC insurance partner, Peter James Insurance do provide cover for this event, as does at least one other company. Your vehicle will be the only one on the circuit at any time. The event is non-competitive and not timed. Please check with your insurance company/broker to advise them of your participation or to obtain additional cover. If you have any queries, please contact me.
Safety
All drivers and passengers will be required to wear safety helmets. Whilst these do not have to be to current Motorsport UK standards, they must be structurally sound. Helmet hire can be provided at an additional cost of £15 per helmet for the day, but only if pre-booked. If you require a safety helmet, please indicate this on the Entry Form and include the hire cost in your payment. If you are unsure of your helmet size, then simply measure around your head, just above the ears, and we will do the necessary calculation.
Your car will undergo informal scrutineering before being permitted to enter onto the track, simply to see if there are any obvious irregularities and that all loose objects have been removed. If you’ve driven your car to the circuit, then there should be no problem. There will be a noise test, and any car considered to be excessively noisy will be excluded. Cars must be equipped with safety belts (unless they were not obligatory when the vehicle was first manufactured), which must be worn by both the driver and any passenger whilst on the track.
Non-driving passengers and spectators are more than welcome and admitted without charge, but please be aware that there is very little weather protection anywhere at this track!
Booking & Payment
For bookings made before the end of February 2026, the cost for the day, which includes a meal and 2 beverage vouchers, is £100. A second driver in the same car is £80, again with vouchers. All drivers must be MSCC members. Please make your payment (including the cost for any helmet hire) by bank transfer when you return the Entry Form to me. If, for any reason, it becomes necessary for us to cancel the event, your entry fee will be refunded in full.
Whilst we would encourage you to drive, if you would like to see what it’s all about and are prepared to help out on the day and marshal (no previous experience necessary), then please let me know.
If you have any questions or queries, feel free to contact me further. Please note that the closing date for entries is 15th March 2026 and that we are frequently oversubscribed.
We hope to see you on the circuit.
