Race Report

Jane Peck

On Sunday 14th of June at Gurston Down Hillclimb the weather was fantastic, warm and dry following on from a warm and dry day on Saturday when both Alan and Jane drove. Originally there were 7 Morgans entered but sadly Paul Bryan had to withdraw because of problems with both of his cars so only 6 cars were in the paddock.

Originally we had been listed as batch 2 but as batch 1 was withdrawn the Morgans had to line up quickly and as Jane grabbed her helmet she inadvertently grabbed the lining which came away from the helmet as she was trying to put the FHS on. The scrutineers came over super calm and helpful and reattached the lining much to Jane’s relief which enabled her to lineup with the rest of Morgans and go out for the first practice run.

P1 went very well although George did spin, not that it appeared to slow him down that much! The second practice run, as George reminded me, was now going to count as the first timed run for the SpeedMog championship. This new regulation was discussed and approved at the Driver’s Dinner in November.

Nearly everybody improved on the second run and with no offs for the entire field and because the event was so well managed a message came over the tannoy offering a third practice run to everybody. Clive was unable to take this up as he had mechanical problems but the rest of us had three initial runs before the timed runs after lunch.

George and George’s Series 1 pal helped Clive with bits of wire and a box of magic tricks, no idea what they did but they got the car running again. Alan had problems with his battery so after every run he had to charge his battery but he kept it going, I think he’s considering a new alternator.

The scrutineers came over again to the paddock unsure about Jane’s lap belts on the harness, but rather than stopping her from running they just suggested ways that she could improve the fitting and allowed her to run. They were so helpful. After lunch Clive was back in the field again having sorted out his problem and everybody made progress, Jane didn’t match her best time for the previous day where she knocked five seconds of her PB.

Congratulations go to George who won followed by Clive followed by Howard. Lots of mechanical issues but a good day was had by all.

Clive Hall back on track

Howard's knee op good enough for 3rd

No PB today but Jane still moving at speed

A quality Morgan repair - as good as new
